Food is tremendously important in Rosh Hashanah New Year celebrations. The table is laden with delicacies that represent the hope of a sweet future. My family always starts the New Year with apples dipped in honey before we sit down to dinner. No sour, bitter or black dishes are served because they could bring bad luck. The egg bread or challah is baked in a special circle to bring never-ending good luck and it is always studded with raisins for a sweet year. This year we will celebrate with a seasonal fall feast, including a Fall Vegetable Soup, Spiced Beef Short Ribs and a Honey Cake for dessert.
