Beyond its pungent aroma, garlic, “the stinking rose” has a powerful reputation. There are health claims and folklore, but as an integral ingredient in dishes around the world, garlic is a culinary champion.

Local farmers, foodies and chefs came together earlier this fall celebrating all things garlic at Toronto’s second annual Garlic Festival. I went because I want to grow garlic next year and needed tips on the best growing practices. Mission accomplished, I have five different types to grow. Plus I got to sample some wonderful garlic-infused dishes that are sure to keep the vampires away.
